Councillor Les Byrom issued the following press statement regarding the status of our nearest Police station on Crosby Road South.
I have been into Crosby Police station regularly in recent years, the counter is closed and in reality it is used as a canteen, store, office and car park.
The People of Crosby and Waterloo however want a local, visible and available Police presence in our community, we will monitor the Police proposals, we need to protect our community from crime and a strong visible presence is needed.
Police officers prevent crime, not buildings, but the two issues are of course connected.
We understand that the Police as well as the Fire Service and Sefton Council is under the cosh of government cuts so we will review the proposals very carefully, the needs of community safety must come first, accepting the difficult financial climate.
We will be talking with the Police Commissioner about the proposals caused by the government unprecedented cuts .
