I am pleased to tell you that I will be, alongside Merseytravel and regional bus operators, launching the Apprentice Travelcard – a new scheme which gives apprentices in the Liverpool City Region a 50% discount on bus travel across Merseyside.
Apprenticeships are a vital pathway to work for young people across the Liverpool City Region, leading to skilled and well-paid jobs, and I am really pleased to be able to introduce this scheme.
The Apprentice Travelcard will be one of the country’s best discounted travel schemes for young people in training and aims to:
• Break down barriers to taking up apprenticeships, making them more attractive
• Encourage people to find the right apprenticeship for them, enabling them to travel further afield
• Promote bus use, which will improve air quality and reduce levels of congestion
• Move towards offering the same support to young people following a vocational route as is already on offer to those pursuing academic options
Prices will be in line with Merseytravel’s already great-value bus fares for under-19s, which means that any apprentice up to the age of 25 will get half-price travel on buses, saving more than £400 per year.
